1. Last night at the Oscars, the award for Best Picture was incorrectly given to “La La Land” instead of “Moonlight”

The last award of the evening, the award for Best Picture, was originally given to “La La Land” but midway through the production team’s acceptance speech it was discovered that the award was actually intended for “Moonlight.”

“La La Land” producer Jordan Horowitz informed the audience of the mix-up saying: “There’s a mistake. ‘Moonlight’ you’ve won best picture,This is not a joke. Come up here.”

Eventually Horowitz showed the confused crowd the card intended for Best Picture, which clearly revealed “Moonlight” as the Best Picture.

Kimmel joked: “Guys. This is very unfortunate, what happened. Personally, I blame Steve Harvey for this.”

Warren Beatty, one of the presenters of the award has taken a while before reading the card, looking off stage and at his co-presenter Faye Dunaway. After the mix up he said into the mic:
“I want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope, and it said: Emma Stone, ‘La La Land.’ That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”

And Neil Patrick Harris pointed out on Twitter, that the actual envelope they had read from had written on it: Actress in a Leading Role.

“We’re here to honor the actors who seem great, but actually really aren’t. And of all the ‘great’ actors here in Hollywood, one in particular has stood the test of time for her many uninspiring and overrated performances … Meryl Streep has phoned it for more than 50 films over the course of her lackluster career.”

Streep who was sitting front row during the show laughed along during the bit.

Kimmel also landed several clever bits throughout the show, including escorting an unsuspecting Hollywood tour through the front of the Dolby Theater while the Oscars were taking place.
